Brian Trimbles experience with AHV

Meet Brian Trimble, from Drumbo in Co. Down. Brian’s journey with AHV Solutions began in April 2022 when he decided to apply AHV’s innovative approach to his dairy herd of 75 Holstein cows.

“I would say I am a first-generation farmer here doing milk anyway,” says Brian, who transitioned from raising suckler cows to dairy farming in 2012. His farm operation has been thriving, with a herd average of 11,300 litres, milking twice a day and plans to expand to around 120 cows with the addition of two robots.

We decided to give AHV a try

Brian’s introduction to AHV came through one of the advisors, David, who visited his farm in April last year. David explained AHV’s focus on cow health and introduced the concept of using tablets. Intrigued by the potential benefits, Brian decided to give AHV a try, and the results left him impressed.

From fire-fighting to a proactive approach

Initially, Brian started with AHV’s Extra and the Booster and quickly witnessed positive outcomes. Encouraged by these initial results, he opted for the AHV Health Plan. At calving, all his cows receive a regimen that includes Metri, a Milk Start Tablet, a StartLac Paste and an Aspi Tablet. Ten days later, the Extra Tablet and Booster are introduced.
The implementation of the herd health plan in August marked a shift from firefighting health issues to a proactive approach.

Brian notes, “Since then, we have seen fewer health challenges with the cows, and with AHV, we seem to have more milk going to the tank and less being dumped.”

Data-Driven support from AHV

David, the AHV advisor, visits Brian’s farm once a month to review milk recording data and assess the herd’s health. Together, they identify and address any issues promptly. Brian said, “I’ve always was into a dryer prevention.” AHV’s tablets have seamlessly become part of his routine. This approach has not only enhanced the health and well-being of his cows but also increased overall efficiency.

Plans for the future

Looking ahead, Brian has plans to install two robots and to further improve energy levels in his cows, enhance their health, extend their longevity, and optimise milk solids and fertility within the herd.

Highlighting the significant improvement in udder health in his herd, Brian concludes, “I would recommend AHV to other farmers and I have done in the past and because our udder health has significantly increased in our herd and I’m delighted with the product.”
