“RuFO helped us get cows back in calf sooner after calving”

Irish farm manager Paddy Gunn has been using AHV RuFO+ for a while now. Read his experience: “Michael asked us to be part of a RuFO trial in September 2021. We had 1 robot at the time so split the herd into 2 groups, Autumn & Spring on the robot to help us monitor the groups at the different stages of lactation. Body condition, dungs scores & the look of the cows overall improved after about 50 days of RuFO being included in the TMR. Regular dung sieving was carried on the herd, with each sieve showing an improvement, this showed they were digesting the diet better and getting more out of their feed.”

“You could see the cows were really settled in the shed, and they were cudding more while in the cubicles, while dungs had firmed up, leaving the floors a lot drier and the cubicle bed ends cleaner.”

More visible heats

“We did notice a lot more visible heats in our autumn calving group of cows, with nearly all of that group showing a standing heat prior to breeding starting, and they showed to be cycling on the robot heat detection system just 14 days after calving, which was about a 2 week improvement on the previous year. This means we are getting cows back in calf sooner after calving, which then helps improve our profitability. This has continued with the spring calving herd also.”
