Impressive results with AHV HiQure Liquid in UK trial with outdoor piglets
In close cooperation with a major UK integrator, AHV conducted research into the efficacy of AHV HiQure Liquid in weaning piglets.
The study aimed to assess its impact on health and growth performance and investigate the potential to reduce reliance on antibiotics or zinc treatments. AHV HiQure Liquid, a supplementary animal feed, was administered through piglet drinking water for the initial four weeks post-weaning, offering robust support weeks after weaning. The product provides powerful support to maintain the integrity and stability of the gastrointestinal system of piglets during the critical weaning phase.

Navigating the Weaning Challenge without Zinc
The transition post-weaning presents a myriad of health hurdles, with piglets expending considerable energy on their immune systems, often resulting in growth setbacks. Many piglets lag behind, requiring interventions such as antibiotics or zinc supplementation to navigate this phase successfully.
This predicament is made more challenging by the demand for Raised Without Antibiotics (RWA) products in the market. Treated piglets are relegated to conventional markets, fetching lower prices. With restrictions on pharmaceutical zinc treatment, farmers are seeking alternative solutions to support piglet health while minimising antibiotic usage. AHV partnered with a UK integrator to tackle this pressing issue head-on.
Trial Methodology
The trial encompassed two groups: the AHV trial group, comprising 516 piglets, and the control group, with 720 piglets. The AHV trial group received a 0.07% dosage of AHV HiQure Liquid in their water for 28 days, with minor product loss occurring during routine cleaning of the water troughs.
To eliminate location bias on growth performance, piglet positions were swapped between batches. Weights were recorded at fixed intervals, and additional metrics such as individual treatments, mortality rates, occurrences of stragglers, and feed intake were meticulously documented.

AHV HiQure Liquid: Impressive Results Unveiled
The results showcased remarkable enhancements in the AHV trial group compared to the control:
- Enhanced Growth: Piglets in the AHV group exhibited substantial weight gains, surpassing control group weights by +2.31 kg on day 46 and +5.17 kg on day 52.
- Improved Feed Efficiency: AHV-treated piglets demonstrated superior feed efficiency, boasting a 0.13 reduction in feed conversion ratio (FCR).
- Reduced Mortality and Stragglers: AHV supplementation led to a notable decline in mortality (-0.89%) and occurrences of stragglers (-1.98%).
Return On Investment (ROI)
After using AHV HiQure Liquid, the Return on Investment (ROI) was determined. The improved feed conversion, lower mortality and higher growth rates resulted in a total benefit of 1.34/piglet. Product costs of AHV HiQure Liquid are also included in this, making the return on investment: 149%.
A viable alternative to high concentration Zinc additives
The consistent efficacy of AHV HiQure Liquid in maintaining piglet health post-weaning, without the reliance on zinc additives or antibiotics, presents significant advantages. Notably, this approach allows the farmer to continue supplying piglets labelled as Raised Without Antibiotics (RWA). This not only aligns with evolving market demands but also supports the farm’s commitment to sustainable and responsible livestock management practices.
As a viable alternative to high-concentration zinc additives, AHV HiQure Liquid emerges as a sustainable and effective solution for fostering healthier and more resilient piglets in the swine industry.
