AHV revolutionises aquaculture with its innovative technology
AHV’s mission is to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to overcome significant obstacles in animal health. AHV has extended its commitment to aquaculture, specifically addressing challenges in fish health, especially in salmon farming.
AHV Quorum Sensing Antagonist (QSA) Technology
AHV stands out as a market leader with innovative solutions that not only prevent the formation of biofilms, but also effectively treat existing biofilms using natural plant derived extracts. At AHV, we are constantly testing new plant extracts for their efficacy against biofilm based on the above-mentioned mechanism of action. A crucial component in this innovative mechanism is the role played by QS (Quorum Sensing) in biofilm formation.
QS represents one of the main bacterial signalling mechanisms that directly contributes to the creation of biofilms. AHV’s patented QSA technology, composed of plant derived extracts, influences this process and has the ability to easily penetrate the protective layer. Our plant extracts interrupt the QS process, thus preventing the formation and interrupting the development of the biofilm. This approach allows the immune system to efficiently eliminate bacteria, strengthening the effectiveness of our solutions.
AHV Aqua, the division focused on fish health, focuses on addressing the specific challenges faced by salmon farmers. These challenges include regulatory aspects, sustainability and profitability of production, while ensuring the welfare and health of the fish, as well as the preservation of the oceans.
AHV Aqua programs
The company has developed two specialised programs for salmon: Freshwater and Seawater. The Freshwater Program focuses on overcoming challenges related to bacterial biofilm and supporting the proper functioning of the immune system. Within this program, AHV Salmo Aquo and AHV Salmo Aquaspi stand out. Aquo uses natural bioactive components to disrupt bacterial communication by Quorum Sensing, breaking down the biofilm and leaving pathogenic bacteria unprotected against the action of the fish’s immune system. On the other hand, Aquaspi contains a unique combination of natural bioactive components that support the balance of the immune system, improve tissue blood flow and contribute to the well-being of the fish in stressful situations.
The Seawater Program focuses on promoting the natural health and resilience of fish in this phase. AHV has designed four products to support salmon growing in seawater: AHV Salmo Transfer, AHV Salmo Sea Q, AHV Salmo Sea Q+ and AHV Salmo PreHarvest. AHV Salmon Transfer contains osmoregulators that assist in the crucial osmotic adaptation process, ensuring a smoother transition of salmonids from freshwater to seawater; AHV Salmo Sea Q provides increased resistance against unfavourable bacteria, supporting the immune system; AHV Salmo Sea Q+ provides additional support to improve fish health during periods of increased stress, such as environmental challenges and manipulation. It also includes ingredients that optimise gut microbiota and improve nutrient absorption; AHV Salmo PreHarvest is specifically designed to meet the challenges of the growth phase of fish over 3.5 kilograms, when feeding rates are reduced and conventional treatments may no longer be viable. It supports the immune system to cope with biofilm-related challenges, which are crucial in the last months of salmon production.
Our programs are designed to keep fish healthier for longer, allowing them to reach their harvest weight faster without the need for conventional products. In addition, with solutions based on AHV’s QSA Technology and customised advice and services, the company works closely with salmon farmers to improve fish health, thereby increasing the profitability of their business.
