HOW WE APPLY QUORUM SENSING
AHV is the first mover to focus on applying quorum sensing (QS) in relevant solutions. Using this science we are able to in-house develop and produce innovative responses to challenges and obstacles in animal health and support and empower our farmers community.
Using a case study of udder health, we explain how our technology is being applied to our innovative, high quality solutions. From the principles of QS, we are able to disrupt the communication between certain bacteria (QS inhibition or quorum quenching (QQ)), and support your animal’s natural resistance in its recovery periods.
HOW OUR SOLUTIONS WORK
You easily administer the AHV Solutions orally. The product will then go into the rumen of the animal.
Through the bloodstream, the active substances of the AHV Solution find their destination, such as the udder or the respiratory system of your animal.
Through collaborating, specific bacteria have formed a biofilm to protect themselves against, among other things, toxic substances and your animal’s immune cells (Parsek et al., 2005).
These bacteria are released from the biofilm at times of stress or low resistance in your animal. However, they can still return to the biofilm (Fink-Gremmels et al., 2007).
The active AHV substances reach the udder and disrupt the communication of these bacteria.
Because they can no longer communicate and collaborate, the biofilm breaks down (Dieltjens et al., 2020).
AHV IN ACTION
This biofilm is partially digested by your animal’s immune cells. In relation to the udder, the immune cells cleanse the udder by removing the biofilm, mainly via the teats.
The climate in the udder is thus brought back to a natural balance between different bacteria.
